2023 Las Vivas Merlot

• Sonoma Mountain, California
• 100% Merlot
• Organic, Regenerative farming

David Rothschild grew up in Sonoma but gravitated away from the wine industry, discovering his passion for farming at UC Santa Cruz while studying Environmental Studies with a focus on sustainable agriculture. After growing organic produce and working with Enterprise Vineyards under Phil Coturri, he joined Sonoma Mountain Winery (Dan Marioni) and began farming five acres of grapes in 2019. Today, Los Paisanos Vineyard Management tends 65 acres of grapes, five acres of olives, and harvests for about 15 wineries. In 2022, David launched Las Vivas to highlight wine and olive oil crafted from exceptional sites farmed with intention, mindfulness, and harmony with nature. Las Vivas celebrates place and the vitality of living systems. David has farmed grapes since 2013, and with his team, stewards some of Sonoma County’s most distinctive vineyards, bringing farm-to-bottle expression to life.

Tasting Notes: Planted in 1992 and farmed by David since 2019, this 600-foot, east-facing Sonoma Mountain site was dry-farmed in 2023, yielding October fruit with bright, zippy energy—dark-toned yet light, high-acid, with subtle anise and crushed fennel. Tastes like Bordeaux but goes down like Burgundy. Pair with herb-roasted chicken, vegatables or rich meats like short ribs.

2024 Matic Wines Kerner Skin Contact

• Slovenia
• 100% Kerner
• Organic & Biodynamic

Matic Wines is a small but adventurous Slovenian winery based in the hills of Štajerska in northeastern Slovenia — near the Austrian and Hungarian borders. The estate spans roughly 9 hectares and is farmed organically and biodynamically, with minimal intervention, wild-yeast fermentation, and little to no added sulfur.  Behind Matic Wines is third-generation winemaker Matija Žerjav (known simply as “Matic”), who took over the family vineyards in his early 20s.  He melds respect for his grandfather’s traditional methods with a bold curiosity — experimenting with skin-contact (orange) wines, clay amphora aging, concrete eggs, and pét-nat natural sparkling wines. The result? Fresh, mineral-driven wines that reflect the marl-rich soils and dramatic terroir of Štajerska — honest, vibrant expressions of place made sustainably and with plenty of soul.

Tasting Notes: Bright amber hue with aromas of pineapple, mango and lychee, shifting to soft smoke and earthy tones as it breathes — Matic Wines Kerner Skin Contact is fresh yet full-bodied, with tropical fruit and mineral-driven acidity on the palate.   Pair it chilled with grilled seafood, roast chicken or turkey, and hearty vegetarian dishes — it also complements soft cheeses warmly.

Emilio Bulfon Sciaglin Spumante NV

• Friuli- Venezia Guilia, Italy
•100% Sciaglin
• Organic

For more than 35 years, Emilio Bulfon has led the revival of ancient, nearly vanished native grape varieties in western Friuli, Italy. At a time when international grapes dominated local vineyards, Bulfon committed himself to researching, identifying, and replanting historic Friulian varieties once forgotten or thought lost. Thanks to his work, grapes such as Ucelut, Piculit Neri, and Sciaglin now thrive again in commercial production. Based in Pordenone, between Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the estate farms about sixteen hectares, with eleven devoted to nine rare indigenous varieties. Bulfon pairs modern research—working closely with ampelographers from the Experimental Institute for Viticulture in Conegliano—with traditional, low-intervention winemaking. The wines, adorned with labels inspired by Medieval frescoes, evoke the spirit of Friuli’s mid-century wines while offering fresh, contemporary elegance.

Tasting Notes: Bright and delicate, Sciaglin Spumante shows pear, golden and green apple, lemon-peel citrus, elderflower, and a light mineral finish. Its crisp freshness pairs beautifully with oysters, sushi, fried appetizers, soft cheeses, and herb-focused seafood dishes.
