Alessandro Viola is a respected natural winemaker based in Alcamo, in western Sicily, where his family has cultivated vineyards for generations. After studying oenology and gaining experience in northern Italy and on Mount Etna, Viola returned to Sicily in the late 1990s with a clear philosophy: let nature express itself with as little intervention as possible. Today, he farms vineyards organically, working primarily with native Sicilian varieties including Catarratto, Grillo, Nero d’Avola, and Nerello Mascalese. His vineyards span different elevations and soils around Mount Bonifato and Santa Ninfa, creating wines with a strong sense of place. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation, indigenous yeasts, minimal sulfur, and limited manipulation allow the grapes to speak naturally. The resulting wines are vibrant, distinctive, and deeply connected to the character of Sicily.
